Across the world, there are countless incredible locations that people flock to every year for their holidays, but amusingly, Brits tend to stick to what they know. Many of us don’t like straying too far from our comfort zone abroad because, at the end of the day, a holiday is a time to relax. So, here is a list of holiday destinations that most Brits keep returning to.

Costa del Sol, Spain

Everyone knows that Brits love visiting Spain, especially Costa del Sol. This coastal area remains a favorite for many, thanks to its sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and lively atmosphere. The region also offers a mix of bustling resorts and quieter, more traditional towns, making it a go-to destination for those seeking both a laid-back Mediterranean vibe. However, as First Post reports, the sheer mass (and poor behavior) of Brits abroad is starting to grate on the locals.

Algarve, Portugal

Not too far from Costa Del Sol is the Algarve’s stunning coastline, with its golden beaches and dramatic cliffs. This picturesque region attracts tons of British holidaymakers every year, primarily due to its pleasant climate, previously mentioned beaches, impressive golf courses, and fresh seafood. The Algarve is also perfect for families, couples, and solo travelers alike, which explains why so many people love it.

Paris, France

Despite its negative reputation for being rude, Paris, the city of lights, never loses its appeal for British visitors. Its iconic landmarks, world-class museums, and romantic ambiance offer something for everyone, and its close proximity to the UK makes it perfectly affordable for a weekend getaway.

New York City, USA

Moving away from Europe, New York City’s energy and endless attractions make it another top choice for Brits, especially for those looking for a bustling urban escape. Known for its skyline, shopping, and diverse neighborhoods, the city offers a unique blend of culture and entertainment. Every visit to New York feels like a new adventure.

Rome, Italy

European cities don’t get much more historic than Rome’s blend of ancient history, art, and culinary delights, so it keeps drawing Brits back. The city’s iconic landmarks, like the Colosseum and Vatican, offer a glimpse into the past, while its bustling piazzas and trattorias provide the perfect setting for soaking up Italian culture. If you’ve never visited, it’s really time that you change that.

Tenerife, Canary Islands

A holiday in Tenerife is synonymous with British tourism. The island’s year-round warm weather and diverse landscapes make it a popular choice, although its neighboring islands, such as Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, are also big hits. However, Tenerife’s mix of sandy beaches, volcanic terrain, and lush forests is particularly ideal, so British tourism is unlikely to diminish on the island any time soon.

Mallorca, Spain

Arguably, the most iconic British holiday destination on this list is Mallorca. Every year, Mallorca’s stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and scenic mountains make for a versatile destination, especially in the island’s capital, Palma. However, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a destination reserved for parties; its quieter towns provide a peaceful and cultural retreat, too.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Young Brits simply cannot stop visiting Amsterdam, and let’s be real–it’s not because of its canals and museums if you know what we mean. The city’s laid-back vibe makes it a beloved spot for Brits seeking a quick getaway, especially its close proximity to the UK. Sadly, the city is actively trying to push away British tourists due to the poor behavior that they bring, so remember to behave yourself next time you visit.

Dubai, UAE

When Brits are looking for a luxurious holiday without breaking the bank, Dubai is their go-to. Known for its towering skyscrapers, shopping malls, and extravagant lifestyle, the city offers a unique holiday experience. Whether it’s lounging on pristine beaches or exploring futuristic attractions, Dubai provides a memorable escape from the everyday.

Orlando, USA

There’s just something about Orlando in Florida, U.S., especially when it comes to DisneyLand, that makes it a bucket list destination for British families. Its world-famous theme parks and year-round sunshine are clear perks, and it’s also a particularly family-friendly city. If you’ve not visited yet, you’ll no doubt be dreaming of doing so someday.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Brits who are on a budget and can’t afford international travel (or simply don’t have the time) love heading up North to Edinburgh for its historic charm and vibrant festival scene. The city’s blend of medieval architecture, cultural attractions, and scenic views make it a favorite for those seeking a mix of history and modernity. Best of all, it’s only a 45-minute flight from most English airports, so a weekend trip is very easy to achieve.

Barcelona, Spain

In recent years, Barcelona has started to take over Mallorca and Costa Del Sol when it comes to British tourism in Spain. Its unique architecture, bustling markets, and seaside location make for more of a cultural experience rather than a generic resort, hence its increase in popularity. Sadly, the locals aren’t all too happy about this, sparking serious protests recently due to gentrification and the poor behavior of British tourists.

Lake District, England

If getting to Edinburg feels like too much of a slog, some Brits choose to visit the Lake District instead, a Northern region famous for its stunning natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere. It’s particularly popular for those seeking a peaceful escape, thanks to its lakes, rolling hills, and charming villages. If you’ve never visited yet, you travel abroad a lot, take a break this year and holiday locally.

Crete, Greece

Another holiday destination that Brits keep returning to is Crete, a Greek island. Its mix of ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, and delicious cuisine makes it a favorite among Brits, and there’s just something more exotic about it when compared to Spanish islands. Best of all, Crete isn’t just about holiday resorts; it’s actually one of the most historical locations in Europe.

Cornwall, England

Brits who want to holiday locally but without bracing themselves for the cold Northern weather tend to head down south to Cornwall. The county’s rugged coastline, sandy beaches, and quaint fishing villages offer a quintessentially British seaside experience, as well as plenty of amazing surf spots, scenic walks, and fresh seafood. Don’t forget Devon, too!

Ibiza, Spain

Just like with Amsterdam, young Brits flock to Ibiza every summer because of its reputation for being a party island. It’s especially popular among fans of electronic music, although it also offers plenty of quieter, more serene spots for those looking to relax.

Prague, Czech Republic

Finally, Prague is quickly becoming Britain’s favorite stag-do and hen-party spot thanks to its fairy-tale architecture, cobbled streets, rich history, and, most importantly, incredible beers. However, let’s be honest–you’re not going to experience Prague’s authentic charm in a beery haze, so make sure you return at some point for a more laid-back cultural experience.
